Understanding Page Orientation, Margins & troubleshooting

There are cases when the print-out (or the preview itself) will just not look fine. We continue with our printing sheet example. For the List 2(the big horizontal sheet of student records) of the attached file, if you want a single page print out and go with the default options & steps given in our last tutorial, very likely you are going to end up with something like this:

We have already gone through the process of setting up a multipage print layout. There are scenarios where you may want to adjust the number of pages you print is taking, or in general increase/decrease the zoom size. To do so, again go to print preview->Page Setup as shown below:

Print the header row or the first column in each page & Setting up a multi page print

There are situations when you need to print a sheet whose prints will run into multiple sheets.If there are several rows & few colums, the prints will run vertically. For a sheet with multiple column having data, the sheet will break horizontally. For a sheet that has lot of colmns & rown with data, the prints will run first horizontally & then vertically. OK confusing? Let’s see the examples: Multiple Rows print & repeating row headers: We take the sheet 1 of attached tutorial file for demonstrating this.

Printing a small part of an excel file

Apart from other common printing options, one important section is to select what do you want to print. By default, excel assumes that you want to print the complete active sheet. So if your sheet has a lot of data and you currently want to print only a small part of it, Please follow the following steps:

In this example we use sheet 2 of the sample tutorial file. This is a sample school record running in to multiple columns. Let’s say you quickly want to print just the student names & their respective IDs.

To do so, just select the relevant part of the excel sheet:

Printing an excel file

There is a frequent requirement to print excel files for making reports, showing it to top management, or for your own purpose. Excel is essentially a data spreadsheet tool, and unlike MS Word or other text processing tool, excel is inherently not so printer friendly (Just Imagine that it allows you to have ~16000 columns). We are not suggesting that printing from excel files is difficult, just that it may not be as straight forward at times (as you will discover in this tutorial).
